OSCAR DE LA HOYA is known as the golden boy of boxing and next Saturday in Las Vegas he will live up to his nickname when he makes an estimated U50million (#25million) for a fight.

De La Hoya defends his WBC light-middleweight title against Floyd May-weather in a bout that looks set to bust all boxing records.

All 16,400 tickets for the showdown at the MGM sold out in under three hours and generated U19.8m in sales. The previous record was U16.8m for Lennox Lewis against Evander Holyfield.

It is also expected that the fight will be bought by more than two million people for U54.99 on pay-per-view, which will smash Mike Tyson's record of 1.9m for his rematch with Holyfield.

To add to the fight glamour the multimillionaire rapper 50 cent has written a song called "Straight To The Bank" to mark the momentous occasion. The controversial rapper will also walk to the ring with his close friend Mayweather and has placed a staggering million-dollar bet on a Mayweather victory.

"The fight will be bigger than boxing and will change the way people look at the sport," said De La Hoya, who is guaranteed #25m - and as the promoter will easily double that figure.

"Floyd has a bad mouth, a bad attitude and people want to see me beat him up," added De La Hoya, 34, who has won world titles in six weight divisions.

Mayweather, meanwhile, has dismissed his opponent and constantly accused De La Hoya of being an "old man", during their 10-city tour to promote their fight.

"He's way too old to beat a boy like me and he will find that out on the night," said Mayweather, just four years younger.

He is unbeaten in 37 fights and has won three world titles at different weights.
