Selby fires a rocket at Ronnie

Rising snooker star Mark Selby has warned he won't change the ways that got him branded boring by Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Selby goes into this week's China Open bidding for a hat-trick of major titles after landing the Masters and the Welsh Open - where Rocket Ronnie bitterly accused him of going too slow in an epic 9-8 final win that dragged on for hours.

The 24-year-old from Leicester lists O'Sullivan as his all-time snooker hero, but is unrepentant about the way he achieved his first big wins.

Selby said: "The way I see it, I've just won two major tournaments back to back, so what's the point in changing anything?

"It's like golfers who get criticised for slow play. It's not a race. The trouble is, Ronnie is so quick he just expects people to play at the same pace as him and if they don't he isn't happy.

"But it's hard to think who wouldn't be slow compared to him. That's his style and it's fine for him but I need to be me.

"Winning this year's two big tournaments has made a difference to my confidence going into this next one and looking towards the World Championship at the end of the month.

"I didn't really have the confidence in my own ability that perhaps other did.

"But winning the Masters and the Welsh Open has given me the belief I needed."
