Journeyman Jimmy Michie denied Neal Robertson a winning start when Robertson returned to Aberdeen's Conference Centre to defend his Royal London Watches Snooker Grand Prix title.
In the first of his five group matches, Aussie Robertson was beaten 4-2 by Michie, a 36-year-old from Pontefract.
Former world champion Peter Ebdon came back from 3-0 down to beat China's Liu Song 4-3.
