Kenny Logan: The Lions must take Shaun

EXCLUSIVE

Scottish legend Kenny Logan has backed Ian McGeechan as the man to lead the Lions in South Africa next year - but insists Shaun Edwards must be involved to get them purring again.

Wasps director of rugby McGeechan is hot favourite to be handed the challenge of revitalising the side after the disastrous tour of New Zealand two years ago when Clive Woodward's side, ravaged by injury and in-fighting, were routed by the All Blacks in all three Tests.

Logan, who worked under McGeechan with Scotland, is adamant he is the only man who can get the Lions back on track. But he feels it would be foolish to ignore the claims of Edwards - whose role in turning Wales into Six Nations champions has made him one of the hottest properties in coaching.

He said: "Shaun Edwards has got to go. He's probably the best coach in the world at the moment.

"Everyone would love to know how he works and if he goes on the Lions tour they'll get to know all about him.

"Geech will want to bring in top people and he knows Shaun very well from Wasps. He'd love the chance to work with Warren Gatland as well, and that good cop, bad cop situation would work really well, with Ian at the top pulling the strings."

Kenny Logan was speaking at the UK launch of Nintendo Wii Fit, RRP £69.99.
