Bookies face massive pay-outs

Britain's bookies were facing massive pay-outs following the victory of heavily-backed Comply Or Die in yesterday's John Smith's Grand National.

Comply Or Die - first winner in the race for jockey Timmy Murphy and trainer David Pipe - went off 7-1 joint favourite after a deluge of support from punters before the race.

"Punters will be queuing on every High Street in the country to collect their winnings," said William Hill spokesman David Hood.

David Williams of Ladbrokes said: "Comply or Die was the best backed horse of the day by a country mile. It was the result we dreaded."
