Gregorio Lavilla has set his sights on ending the Bennetts British Superbike season on a double top at Brands Hatch today.
The Spanish rider powered in the fastest ever lap of the 1.24-mile Indy circuit on his Airwaves Ducati in 45.19 seconds, to better his own previous best by six-tenths of a second, during qualifying for the final two race round.
"I want to end the season on a high," he said.
"My first target was to get pole position, now I want to win both races."
The 2005 champion knows he can't win back the title, currently led by defending champion Ryuichi Kiyonari who qualified fifth on his H M Plant Honda. The Japanese rider has a 37-point advantage over team-mate Jonathan Rea, who takes third place on the grid.
