For more than a week now Martin O’Neill and Rafa Benitez have been at loggerheads over Gareth Barry.
Liverpool want him, Aston Villa don’t want to sell him, it’s as simple as that.
Back on May 3 Martin O’Neill started a war of words with his Liverpool counterpart when he accused Rafa Benitez of trying to unsettle Gareth Barry by making a £10million bid for him.
Four days later O’Neill slammed his own player Patrik Berger for telling Gareth Barry that moving to Anfield was “the chance of a lifetime”.
Then on Saturday Rafa Benitez re-entered the row when he hit back at Martin O'Neill for accusing him of being “disrespectful”.
With news today that Martin O'Neill and Villa owner Randy Lerner have met Gareth Barry to scare him off a Liverpool deal, Barrygate looks set to continue for a while yet... especially considering Rafa Benitez’s latest comments on the saga.
