DENNIS WISE launched an astonishing verbal attack on Leeds United's veteran Republic of Ireland defender Gary Kelly last week.

Wise's unprovoked blast came at a stormy meeting with his players on Wednesday morning - hours before 800 guests paid tribute to Kelly at a farewell dinner for the long-serving right-back at Elland Road.

Kelly, 32, is retiring at the end of the season after making more than 500 appearances for Leeds in 16 years with the fallen Yorkshire giants. But he has not played a first-team game since the 3-2 defeat at Barnsley last November.

Kelly is the last of the big earners at Elland Road, on a wage of #28,000 a week.

Boss Wise ripped in to him, allegedly branding him a "parasite" for the money he is being paid by the club.

Kelly's team-mates were said to be "disgusted and outraged" by the treatment of the popular Irishman.

Hours later former Leeds heroes like Howard Wilkinson and Gordon Strachan were at the event marking Kelly's farewell.

Wise is also understood to have had heated words with skipper Jonathan Douglas, striker Richard Cresswell and unsettled midfielder Kevin Nicholls.

This latest bust-up follows rows involving the "mole" who handed Crystal Palace the Leeds line-up ahead of their Championship clash, and Nicholls's request to return to former club Luton.

Wise was unavailable for comment last night.
