TOTTENHAM manager Martin Jol has lined up four close-season targets as he tries to establish the club as genuine contenders for a top-four finish next season.

And the Dutchman who has led the club to successive fifth-place finishes - as well as the quarter-finals of the UEFA and FA Cups and the semi-finals of the Carling Cup - is prepared to pare the current squad to accommodate the new arrivals.

Top of the wanted list is Blackburn winger Morten Gamst Pedersen, while Jol would also like to bring in Wigan left back Leighton Baines, Darren Bent of Charlton and Nigel Reo-Coker of West Ham.

And Jermain Defoe, Mido and Hossam Ghaly are all set to leave White Hart Lane.

The arrival of Pedersen would bring a natural left-winger to the squad. Jol has alternated Steed Malbranque and Aaron Lennon in the role, but Lennon is far more dangerous on the right, while Malbranque consistently cuts inside to leave Tottenham with limited attacking options down the left.

Norwegian international Pedersen signed a new contract at Ewood Park at the start of last season and there is no buy-out clause in the deal. But Tottenham know a #10million offer would be difficult for Rovers to refuse.

Left-back has also been a problem for Tottenham this season and their lack of cover was seen when both Young-Pyo Lee and Benoit Assou-Ekotto were injured.

Baines - tipped as a future England player - would be in the #7m bracket and the move would re-unite him with his former Wigan team-mate Pascal Chimbonda.

Charlton are resigned to losing Bent and although his price has been set currently at #15m, it is thought they will take less - though Tottenham will face stiff opposition from Liverpool.

Reo-Coker is likely to jump at the chance to leave West Ham, where he has endured a difficult season.

Bent would be a natural replacement for Defoe who has less than two years left on his contract. Tottenham may be tempted to cash in on him now rather than risk him walking away for nothing.

Egyptians Mido and Ghaly look certain to move on. Striker Mido, who almost joined Manchester City in January, has found his openings limited by the form of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane.
