Tottenham v Liverpool

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE TOTTENHAM v LIVERPOOL White Hart Lane 3pm

Rafa Benitez is ready to commit his long-term future to Liverpool by signing a new contract.

There were worries he would walk away from Anfield if there was no truce in the power battle between co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

But the Spaniard has won his fight to have more say in the way the club go about their transfer business and is now ready to sign a contract extension that will have the blessing of both Americans.

Benitez, whose men complete their season at Tottenham today, said: "The contract will be done before the start of next season.

"The owners have said that will be the case, so that is good.

"Every manager likes to have his position clarified. I still have two more years on my contract and I am happy here. That is vital when you look to sign players because they want to know the manager is happy and they are joining the right club."

His Spurs counterpart Juande Ramos will overhaul the squad at White Hart Lane this summer.

But defender Michael Dawson (below) insists Tottenham already have the players to challenge the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.

And the ex-Nottingham Forest man is confident north London is the place for him to be - not just to win trophies, but also to break into the England squad.

Dawson said: "Look in our dressing room, we've got the quality to get into that top four.

"We've got a good squad. We want to build on that and climb up the table next season so that we're chasing the teams like Liverpool at the top of the table.

"We wanted to build on the two seasons when we finished fifth and we haven't done that, which is disappointing. But we're stronger for the experience of getting out of a bad patch."
