Haile Gebrselassie yesterday showed that he can still be in contention for an Olympic medal on the track with a superb 10,000m run in the Netherlands.
Gebrselassie, 34, who moved to the marathon after the Games in Athens in 2004, finished second at the FBK Games in Hengelo in 26:51.20, in a race won by his fellow Ethiopian Sileshi Sihine. Asthmas ufferer Gebrselassie is avoiding the marathon because of Beijing's pollution.
Britain's Lee McConnell set a marker for the 400m women earlier in the day, winning in 51.66, a meeting record.
