TY'S HIGH AMBITION

TYSON GAY is on a mission to take the 100 metres world record to a time that could last for years.

The American tops the bill at the Norwich Union British Grand Prix in Sheffield today where he will aim to produce a sensational run even if the weather is bad.

Jamaican Asafa Powell holds the world record with 9.77sec, but in June Gay ran a wind-assisted 9.76 that does not count. Now he'd like to achieve it for real, saying: "If it reached the 9.6s, it could be around for a long time."

He is also targeting the 200-metre time of 19.32sec, which Michael Johnson established in 1996.
