Stop Loss

The story: A young Army sergeant (Phillippe, above) returns from his tour of duty in Iraq only to find that, under the US government's "stop loss" policy, he can be sent back out again. Furious, he decides to take matters into his own hands.
The verdict: This powerful film takes a steady aim at a controversial policy. Phillippe is impressive as the patriotic young Texan who feels he's been pushed too far. Best of all though is young Aussie actress Cornish as the soldier's childhood friend who's as tough as the Texan men around her.
Final Cut: A powerful and thoughtful military drama. Rating: 4/5
