Happy-Go-Lucky

The story: Primary school teacher Poppy (Hawkins) adores the children she works with and is dedicated to her job. She shares a flat with her best friend Zoe (Zegerman), has a great social life, cares for her sisters and also takes flamenco and trampoline lessons. Her driving instructor Scott (Marsan) finds it hard to deal with her sense of humour, but is also mildly obsessed with her. Happy being single, she meets a man through work and they hit it off.
The verdict: Ignore the fact that the storyline sounds a little on the bland side. Happy-Go-Lucky is a cracking new Mike Leigh film - with a beautifully rendered series of characters and refreshingly honest dialogue. And with Poppy, the wonderfully talented Sally Hawkins has created a character who is so unrelentingly cheerful that you can't help be won over by her.
Final Cut: Happy-Go- Lucky is a memorable movie experience. Enchanting. Rating: 4/5
