Basics
John Lennon's lyrics for Give Peace A Chance from the famous Montreal Bed-In of 1969, along with personal photos never before been seen in public, are coming up for sale soon. Anything connected with The Beatles, especially if personally used or written, is incredibly desirable.
Instant expert
Give Peace A Chance was the first hit by an individual Beatle whilst still a member of the group. When John saw TV clips of nearly 500,000 anti-Vietnam protesters signing his song outside the White House in November 1969 he considered it to be "one of the biggest moments of my life".
How much?
This item is the highlight at Christie's South Kensington Rock And Pop Memorabilia sale on July 10. The estimate is £200,000-£300,000. Twenty lines of incomplete lyrics to "I Am The Walrus written by John Lennon went for £78,500 many years ago.
The real deal
The lyrics and photos are offered from the collection of UK-based comedy writer and presenter Gail Renard. Gail was just 16 and living in Montreal at the time of the Bed-In, when she and a friend sneaked into the Queen Elizabeth Hotel, via the drainpipe, where John and Yoko were holding their protest for peace - and became friends with them. John gave Gail a few mementos, including the lyrics, telling her, "one day they will be worth something". An amazing story and a treasure waiting to be snapped up.
