Blundering cops have had to cancel 500 speed camera fines after penalty notices were sent out by second-class post.
The £30,000 gaffe meant some drivers did not receive the statutory 28 days to pay up or appeal.
The £60 fixed-penalty notices were mistakenly sent out using a box of envelopes pre-printed with second-class stamps.
Chief Supt Peter Coll, of Sussex Police, said: "Some notices were sent by second-class post as a result of human error in loading the postal machine... we've cancelled all relevant tickets."
