New measures are on the way to help Britain's struggling bingo clubs after a wave of closures.
Limits on the number of £500 jackpot machines - imposed last September - are expected to be loosened in another government U-turn.
Industry leaders say they stand to lose between £20m and £30m a year - around a third of their profits - because of the new gambling laws.
Gambling minister Gerry Sutcliffe is set to announce measures to halt the growing number of bingo club closures, after hearing industry appeals.
A total of 53 have closed in the last 15 months, taking the number of clubs in the UK to 550, as the industry suffers from the impact of the smoking ban and the credit crunch.
Paul Talboys, of the Bingo Association, said: "We are keeping our fingers crossed the Government have changed their mind."
