They could face legal action under EU rules to crack down on dodgy spiritualists.
Mediums may now have to issue disclaimers such as "this is a scientific experiment, the results cannot be guaranteed" before making contact with the other side.
They have formed a union, the Spiritual Workers' Association, to guard against lawsuits. A spokesman said: "This is unfair on genuine spiritualists."
The 1951 Fraudulent Mediums Act is being replaced by rules to ban everything from bogus closing-down sales to prize-draw scams.
Last year £40million was spent on online, phone and TV psychic services.
