Birt Dad facing jail in Philippines flees country

A British father who faced seven years in jail in the Philippines for adultery has dramatically fled the country.

David Scott was safely in Bangkok, Thailand, last night with girlfriend Cynthia Delfino and their daughter Janina. They had been on the run from police but managed to escape after bribing officials with £1,000.

Officials demanded they hand over their baby to Cynthia's estranged husband Noriel Delfino - even though David is the natural father. Under Filipino law Janina belongs to Mr Delfino as she was born before their marriage was annulled.

After three months on the run, David, a sub-contractor for the Ministry of Defence, said: "It's so good to be free at last. There was no way I would let this man take our baby."

David, 35, is now trying to get his family British citizenship so they can come back to the UK.
