'Labour has made mistakes'

A key Gordon Brown ally yesterday conceded the Government "had made some mistakes", but insisted Labour was "fundamentally united".

As the PM came under pressure to clearly set out his "vision" in his first Queen's Speech on Tuesday, Cabinet minister Ed Balls said Labour was the "one nation" party.

Schools Secretary Mr Balls said: "For all the sound and fury of the past few weeks, it is still our party that has been setting the policy agenda."
