MUDNESS

180,000 BRAVE THE RAIN AT SODDEN GLASTONBURY ..they call it mudness

IT was a case of muds and rockers at Glastonbury - but thousands of music fans didn't let torrential rain dampen their spirits.

The heavens opened as 180,000 revellers braved the wet weekend at the world's biggest rock gathering - and were left squelching in the mud. It got so bad 1,200 were hurt - with 32 needing hospital treatment after slipping over.

Although the weather cheered up briefly yesterday afternoon, two days of rain had turned the fields of Worthy Farm in Somerset into sludge. But the drenched music-lovers put on plastic ponchos, wellies and bin bags to frolick and wrestle in the quagmire.

Headline acts yesterday included The Killers, Lily Allen and Pete Doherty. Doherty's girlfriend Kate Moss and the Geldof sisters Pixie and Peaches were among the stars present.

And it wasn't just Glasto, with race-goers at Ascot and holidaymakers at south coast resorts such as Bournemouth also hit by the heavy rain. More is expected today.
